MIPCOM 2017 - Austrian Crime Movies go international

ORF-Enterprise wraps a successful MIPCOM in Cannes with a wide variety of fresh deals.

Austrian distributor ORF-Enterprise successfully continues the cooperation with Discovery Italia by closing a movie package deal for Italian FTA channel "Giallo".

The Italian broadcaster has secured the rights for 17 episodes of ORF's award-winning crime movie series "Scene of the Crime" that will soon become available to the Italian audience featuring thrilling yet socially relevant criminal cases. IRIB (Iran) signed a 10+ hour package of the weekly crime strand, whereas Swiss public broadcaster SRF picked the brand new episode "Virus".

Selected movies of ORF's crime highlight have been previously aired in Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, Switzerland, Iran, Ukraine and the USA as well as on Sony Picture's channels in various territories.

Since their first case "Retribution" the investigator team of the movie series solved already 18 criminal cases together with an average of 30% market share in Austrian TV.

Significant volume deals have been concluded in Eastern Europe and the Middle East: RCS & RDS (Romania) and Uzbekistan's public broadcaster have picked 100+ hours each from ORF-Enterprise's factual catalogue.

Iranian national TV IRIB picked 40+ hours of documentaries and ORF's latest crime movies from both strands "Scene of the Crime" and "Backwoods Crimes".

Nominated at the 38th International Awards (Documentary - Outstanding Cinematography), "Vanishing Kings II" will soon air on Al Jazeera Documentary Channel as part of a 10 hours package including the further wildlife docs and "Lionsrock", "Vanishing Kings I", "Garden Wild", "Wild Istanbul" and "Oetscher - The Gentle Giant".

The blue chip documentary "High Life at Low Temperature" previously sold to Iran, Poland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and Argentina has now been picked up by ARTE (France) together with "Stars and Stripes" - sharing the science behind the various colors and patterns on young animal's furs. John Murray's Jackson Hole nominee "Wild Ireland" will soon air on RTBF (Belgium).

Deutsche Welle continues its cooperation with ORF Enterprise by acquiring several current affairs documentaries from ORF's weekly WORLD JOURNAL slot. The German station also confirmed the broadcast of the annual musical event "Christmas in Vienna" which has also been picked up by SPR (Mexico) and KTO (France).The 2017 edition of the concert will deliver on December 22, 2017.
