Transylvania's Wild Side

Transylvania's Wild Side

Transylvania: beyond the sinister, blood-soaked mythology of Dracula's crumbling castles, there's something extraordinary about this corner of Romania. Shielded by the arc of the Carpathian Mountains, is one of Europe's last true wildernesses, with forests little changed since the Middle Ages. They are home to some of the world's biggest wolf packs, and sanctuary to the magnificent lynx and European brown bear. Here, crumbling medieval villages long abandoned by humans have been resettled by elegant storks, the mythical childbearers of old. Bats fly in and out of the crumbling castles; and among the film's unexpected heroes are a family of mouse-eared bats, struggling to bring up their fragile young in the ruined walls of a 500-year-old church.
