Wolves of Naliboki

Wolves of Naliboki

Naliboki in Belarus is unique. Nowhere else in Europe are wolves hunted down so relentlessly; and nowhere do so many survive - at least a thousand! Vadim Sidorovich knows why: he has spent decades studying their survival strategies, their hunting techniques and reproduction rates. With Vadim we observe a pack of wolves as they roam the forest, rearing their young, hunting and competing with lynxes and bears, among the bison, elks and boars.
The wolves of Naliboki are sly and tough. Centuries of persecution have taught them how to escape hunters. They move from den to den with their cubs, only raiding livestock and dogs on the harshest winter nights. By morning they're back deep in the forest, safe from pursuit.
How many wolf cubs will survive the first year? Will the young wolves find a territory of their own? Sidorovich's exceptional study may yet provide the key to peaceful co-existence with humans, as wolves steadily reclaim their European hunting grounds.
