Bastien and Bastienne

Bastien und Bastienne

A recording from the Vienna State Opera, Vienna 2006

With "Bastien and Bastienne" the twelve-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart created an enchanting, jovial tale of confusion in love, which foreshadowed his future mastery. The young shepherd, Bastien, falls in love with a rich mademoiselle from the city. His beloved, Bastienne, seeks advice and help from the "sorcerer", Colas, and as a result acts as if she does not want anything more to do with Bastien. The ruse works - and true love wins the day.
