Daniel Käfer and the Shadow Clock

Daniel Käfer und die Schattenuhr

Because of low professonial and financial future perspectives the journalist and former chief-editor Daniel Käfer has to finish his downtime in the Ausseerland. With a heavy heart he goes about taking serious steps for a professional restart in Munich, but his journey already ends in Hallstatt, where the fateful encounter with Gerd Gamsjäger - who could be seen as his younger alter ego - triggers dramatic events. Käfer's relationship to the beautiful sights and historical background of the Salzkammergut intensifies in an ominous way. Gerd tempts him spontaneously to some extraordinary activities like paragliding and an adventurous excursion in the famous glacial caves, where Käfer's levity and high spirits lead to an accident in which Gerd is seriously injured and almost dies. Stricken by guilt and under the spell of Gerd's mother who wants to use him for her own purposes, Käfer gets into further trouble. Based on a dubious treasure map, he takes naïve initiatives to start digging for a mummy in a salt mine, but the undertaking is suddenly hyped by an unscrupulous tourist-manager and ends up in a spectacular row. Too late Käfer has doubts about the authenticity of the document.
