The First Day
Der Erste Tag
A warm summer night. At 4am a monitoring station registers an absurdly high level of radioactivity - probably an error. But before long, the report of an accident comes from an atomic power station close to the border: minor amounts of radioactivity have leaked out. However, the indications that it concerns an accident of previously unseen proportions soon intensify: high contamination of vehicles coming from the neighbouring country is reported and contamination monitoring stations reveal increased levels after a storm - radioactive fallout! The population is alerted to stay indoors. People have to face their worst fears, crops and livestock are forever lost. But then at 4.20pm the situation gets even worse: the reactor is out of control! At least 40,000 people have to be evacuated and a race against time and the approaching storm front begins...
